Ping has long been one of the top club manufacturers of game-improvement clubs. Their latest innovations continue along this track as they plan to release two new sets of cavity-back irons, the and G20 Irons, along with a new addition to the G-series of drivers with the G10 and G20 Drivers. And that's not all: Ping is also releasing new fairway woods and hybrids to accompany the drivers and irons. The Ping 17-4 stainless steel are engineered with extreme low toe-weighting to increase the MOI (moment of inertia) for added forgiveness and consistency. The large, perimeter-weighted head features a new cavity shape and wider sole. The center of gravity is positioned away from the face and low in the club head to promote higher launching, lower spinning shots. By creating a new shape for the Custom Tuning Port (CTP), Ping engineers stabilized the hitting area to produce consistent ball velocity across the entire club face.
An elastomer CTP insert helps control vibration for a solid feel. Features:?Low toe-weighting for increased forgiveness?Wide sole for high launch and forgiving ground impact?Custom Tuning Port (CTP) technology stabilizes face for consistent distance control?Elastomer CTP insert creates solid feel?Ascending Weight Technology (AWT) shaft design Longer irons have lower loft angle, aimed at creating a lower trajectory but a greater overall distance. The has a loft of 18.5 degrees, the 3-iron is 21.0 degrees and the 4-iron is 24.0 degrees. With each and every season PING continues to evolve its lineup, and while there’s hardly a product revolution from one year to the next, evolutionary improvement is all but a given. The are the evolution of the extremely popular G15.
While the G20′s aren’t the most forgiving club in the current PING lineup (that distinction belongs to the K15), they could comfortably take on any other manufacturers super game-improvement irons and more than hold there own. With the G20′s (comparatively speaking) there’s a bit more differentiation between the good and bad (and you really, really know it when you catch one on the “sweeter spot”. That said, nobody is going to confuse the with a player’s cavity back, or blade, but that’s sort of the point. For guys looking for Game-Improvement irons, feel and feedback don’t even register when compared to things like performance and consistency. So while we can’t say the G20′s offer outstanding feel, we think they’re just fine for what they are.
PING G20 Driver (Written By: GolfSpy T) Listen up all you chowderheads because I'm about to drop some serious knowledge on ya'll. Year after year PING manages to produce one of the top 2 or 3 drivers in the market. That's a true story.
And year after year, apart from a legion of devout PING loyalists we wonder if the rest of you bother paying attention. Yeah, they're not always the best looking club, so what? Are you the type of guy who wanders around the hardware store looking for the prettiest hammer, or do you want a tool that will flat out pound nails?
You want paint.go take a nap. You want performance, read on. Tell Us What You Think!. How much do 'looks' play a part when you purchase a driver?. Have you hit the Ping G20 driver?
If so.what were your thoughts? The Marketing Angle Letter for letter there's really nothing revolutionary about the G20. According to PING, the G20 features. Aerodynamic 460cc head with a larger face to create forgiveness and power across the entire hitting surface. External weight to help promote high launch and low spin.
It's fairly standard language for a new driver, and under other circumstances I might have fallen asleep reading it, but, PING has an outstanding track record of actually improving the performance of their drivers with each new release. With PING it's never about the paint, or tinker-toy adjustability, it's always about trying to help the average golfer perform better, which while seldom eye-catching, they never fail to produce a tool that can't get the job done. How We Tested The 6 golfers for whom we collected detailed performance data were asked to hit a series of shots on our 3Track Equipped simulators from. As usual, testing was done at, a state of the art indoor golf facility located in Saratoga Springs, NY. Detailed data for each and every shot for which we collected data is now viewable in the. This data serves as the foundation for our final performance score. As a supplement to our 6 performance testers, a subset of additional golfers were given the opportunity to test the PING G20 Driver and provide feedback in our subjective categories (looks, feel, sound, perceived distance, perceived accuracy, perceived forgiveness, and likelihood of purchase).
This information, which we also collected from our performance testers, is used as the foundation for our total subjective score. Singer manual sewing machine philippines. Testing was done using a 9.5° and 10.5° drivers in regular, stiff, and x-stiff flex. PERFORMANCE SCORING Distance Where distance is concerned, the is sneaky long (260.58 yards average as a group). It's so sneaky in fact that the majority of our testers failed to actually notice how far they were hitting the ball. From shot to shot most of our testers would likely have told you that the G20 was average at best (a couple actually told us they think it's shorter than most drivers).
Of course, this isn't my first rodeo, and I had a sneaking suspicion that when I pulled the distance numbers from the launch monitor there would be some surprises. As it turns out, for 2/3 of our testers, the G20 proved to be one of the 3 longest drivers they've tested this season (including 2 longest overall). No other driver we've tested this year comes close to matching that distinction. And those guys who thought it was among the shortest.shocker.they're both in that 2/3 that saw their best results of the year with the G20. Are you paying attention now? MGS Distance Score: 94.84 Accuracy Look, I'd love to tell you that from an accuracy standpoint the proved to be every bit as straight as it long.
It didn't, in part due to the fact that it's stupid long. That's not to say our testers were spraying balls around like crazy.they weren't. The reality is they were on average (16.43 yards from the center line) only slightly more on target than with most other drivers we've tested. More on target is good, and the G20 most certainly isn't a liability when it comes to hitting the center of the fairway, but it's not quite the PING K15 either. MGS Accuracy Score: 88.63 Consistency As you'll see below, our testers didn't think much of the G20 where distance is concerned, and there's a couple of reasons why. First, as you'll see below, nobody loved the sound and feel, which means absolutely nothing where actual performance is concerned, but actually can influence people's perceptions.
The 2nd reason why the subjective numbers are so incomprehensibly off the mark that I damn near checked our launch monitor for damage is that consistency breeds a sort of contempt among golfers constantly looking for more distance. Hit the ball all over the map, but crank one 15 yards longer and the golfer's mind goes haywire and assumes he's got the longest driver of the year in his hands. Hit the club consistently longer than most anything else, but without that single +15 yard outlier, and suddenly no one is impressed. I'm about to smack somebody. MGS Consistency Score: 95.00 Overall Performance The numbers say that the is one of the top 2 or 3 drivers we've had in for review this season. Hell, you could argue that based on where it ranks for our individual testers it's the best of the lot.
We might be splitting hairs here over what's truly the best, but personally I've only thought enough of 2 drivers this year to put them in my bag and take them out to the golf course. The is one of them. MGS OVERALL PERFORMANCE SCORE: 92.06 SUBJECTIVE SCORING PING never has and probably never will be known for producing flashy clubs.
While the G20 lineup is far from ugly (we've definitely seen worse), I think most would agree that function is a higher priority for PING than flair. With that in mind, I had a pretty good idea what our subjective surveys were going to look like, what I didn't know is they'd make me want to slam my head into a car door as many times at it takes to start thinking like our testers. Looks While the PING G20 does have externally visible weighting, they've managed to tuck it in just enough so that it's not visible at address.
It's an excellent compromise that will still appeal to those guys who want to see their technology, and won't offend those of us who don't. As is typical for PING, there sole graphics while prominent, are not flashy, and while I'm not a tremendous fan of the alignment aid on the crown (seriously.what is that thing), it serves its purpose just fine - even if it does make me want the old crescent style back. Where shape is concerned the G20 looks every bit of its 460CCs (that's a nice way of saying it's bulkier than most). As I mentioned, one tester was a bit put off by the size, but for the most part nobody else had much to say about it. Finally, at address the face appears to have less bulge and roll than other drivers (this is true of the K15 as well).
While it doesn't matter one way or the other, if your accustomed to a more prominent rounding of your driver face, the G20 will appear flat by comparison. In general, while not a single tester was smitten with the design, none were disgusted either. MGS Looks Score: 86.00 Feel Perhaps its just my perception of things, but over the last several revisions, PING drivers have drifted away from the type of feel I'd associate with Titleist and TaylorMade (TM has drifted a bit themselves), and moved towards a more solid (though not harsh) feel at impact. While I personally prefer the G10 in this regard, there's nothing necessarily unpleasant about the G20. Like the K15, it's just a bit different then what I remember from PING. Though not a single tester commented directly on the feel (or sound for that matter), the majority ranked it on the lower end of average.
MGS Feel Score: 77.94 Sound We've talked before about sound and feel being almost the same thing. In the case of the G20 they are pretty much are.
Just as with feel, I would again suggest that PING had drifted away from a sound that I would describe as.well.a PING, and over the last couple of years has become a bit more of a pop. We're a long way away from Nike or older composite territory, but once again, I'm more fond of earlier models. MGS Sound Score: 77.94 Perceived Distance Look I don't want to sit here and call our testers morons, but hypothetically.what would you call a guy who hits a series of shots, gets to see every bit of data from those shots, and when that data shows he's hit a driver (let's call it the G20) longer than any club he's hit all year, declares that it's 5-10 yards shorter than most anything else? Truth is our testers aren't morons (probably), but those who circled the lowest numbers most definitely got it wrong. The problem is that the average golfer sees what he wants to and not what's actually happening in front of him. This is exactly why data matters. It's why the subjective score only counts for 10% of the total, and why perceived distance and accuracy are going away in the next revision.
It's also why I need a beer(s). Trust the data.it's where reality lives. Perceptions and subjectivity are nothing more than just that. Tester Perceived Distance Score: 77.94 Perceived Accuracy What invariably happens when our testers under-estimate distance is that they tend to either over-estimate accuracy, or basically nail it. In this case they basically nailed it. While I don't think any of our testers would tell you the is the most accurate driver they've ever hit, most would probably tell you it's above average.
That's how I would assess things anyway. As I said, it's a relatively straight hitting driver, but it's not quite the K15. Tester Perceived Accuracy Score: 88.69 Perceived Forgiveness There's reality (close a face and the ball flies low and left, open it and the ball flies high and right), and there's the stuff golf companies tell you (almost slice-proof, never hook, etc.). Until the USGA decides to allow gyroscopes in driver heads there are always going to be big misses.
All you should realistically hope for in terms of forgiveness is that a driver can maintain a healthy percentage of its distance capabilities when you hit the ball high on the face, or low on the heel, or high on the toe. Everything else is a pipedream. Of course, once you get past MOI numbers and things like that, forgiveness is basically all subjective anyway (how far a golfer thinks he hit the ball, based on where he thinks he hit it). For my money, the G20 is a solid A- where forgiveness is concerned (at least that's what I told the guys as I chased a mis-hit 20 yards past them), but hey, our testers say a solid B, so we'll go with that.
Tester Perceived Forgiveness Score: 86.00 Likelihood of Purchase It's not that the LOP score for the G20 is the lowest we've seen (far from it), but at the same time it's inconceivably low considering the actual performance numbers. Yeah, looks count, and so do sound and feel, but none of the numbers anywhere as low as LOP score. We're talking about a driver that the numbers say should go in the bags of half our testers and yet. What is it going to take for golfers to get serious about performance? Can somebody hand me a can of white paint? Tester Likelihood of Purchase: 72.56 I've been frustrated by the results of our subjective surveys before. Most often the numbers come back low for an average club, but the results of our surveys for the G20, in my opinion anyway, are nothing less than a travesty.
I'm by no means a PING fanboy (currently zero PING clubs in my bag, although I have played their fairway woods and hybrids recently as this season), but it's well past time golfers took note of exceptional performance bundled in admittedly ordinary packaging. TOTAL SUBJECTIVE SCORE: 75.36 CONCLUSION Our testers aren't actually morons. They're enthusiastic golfers, who get genuinely excited about a good deal of the equipment they test for us. Like most anybody else, sometimes they just get it wrong. For whatever reason, the PING G20 just didn't get the guys all worked up (although you'd hope that after having a chance to review their actual numbers they'd rethink their positions). Each of us uses his own weighting scale to determine what's really important to us as golfers. Some willingly admit that they value distance above everything else (including common sense).
The smartest guys place the premium on accuracy, while still others get so wrapped up in labels and paint schemes they forget about getting as far up the fairway as they possibly can. How good does your driver look from the woods? We have a scoring system that is absolute and so I must abide by it.
But if you want the honest opinion of a guy who has tested every driver to come through the doors at MyGolfSpy over the last 2 seasons; even if it doesn't have some of the intangible lure of some of the others, the is absolutely one of the top 3 drivers we've ever tested. One guy's opinion.this score should be plenty higher! MGS TOTAL SCORE: 89.70 Tell Us What You Think!. How much do 'looks' play a part when you purchase a driver?.

In 2014, I decided to take golf up more seriously. I had only played occasionally in charity tournaments or on vacation, playing maybe once a year.
I was in need of a new driver and tested many drivers before going with the Ping G20, 9.5 loft with TFC 169D R-Flex shaft, not cut down. I absolutely love this driver and find it very forgiving, especially when I don’t have a great shot, which I still tend to out drive my golf partner on bad shots. The drives are pretty straight, of course it helps if you’re lined up correctly. On good days I typically drive the ball 230-250 yards, so I’ve started playing from the men’s tees now.
It’s not a very flashy driver, but I don’t think it’s a bad looking driver; what’s more important to me than looks and sound is the overall feel, distance and accuracy. I would definitely purchase this club again. In fact I’m online now trying to find another Ping G20 driver for a friend that fell in love with mine.
Sorry I got here 5 years too late, but I am a firm believer that the G20 is in the top 5 of all 460cc drivers ever designed and made. I don’t care about distance. I play from the fairway so often it’s laughable.
We actually laugh. Laugh out loud, like the real lol. At the ridiculous windows I hit this crazy driver through. I’m never the longest, but I’m the most boring, drama free driver on the course. My history with Ping drivers is:Tisi, Si3, G10, and now the G20. The Tisi is longest (by 10 yards) btw.
Mixed in there have been fleeting moments with friends’ RBZS, Jetspeed, R11, Cleveland Launcher, SLDR, G25, G30, NikeSQ and even a Big Bertha. None of them deliver themselves to the ball so effortlessly and consistently as the G20. Most aforementioned clubs actually feel foreign and cheap en route to and at/during impact. I Iove feeling the ball compress and depart from the clubface of the G20 which makes the follow-through of this driver a thoughtless, natural happening.
No one pures every shot, and the shite I sometimes get away with is staggering. My extreme toe-shots actually draw a bit. A heel/hosel shot will punish the most with a short, but-still-in-the-fairway drive. I just wish I got the same results with the fairway wood.I actually went back to the G10 4wood from the G20. Oh well, who cares? But hey, if others, and I mean a lot of others at my most frequented course have given my DRIVER a freaking NAME, you know it is effing awesome.
It’d be nice if someone asked me how I was once in a while. The driver’s fine, thanks. I don’t care about distance. I play from the fairway so often it’s laughable. We actually laugh.

The driver’s fine, thanks. The G20 is truly “sneaky-long.” I put it in the bag two months ago (got it cheap) and I often have a deflated feeling after I hit it down the fairway. It’s almost a feeling like I mishit the club.
That is, until I walk past my buddies by thirty yards down the fairway. You won’t feel the distance from the tee. It’s kind of bizarre. I walk to where I think I hit it, then notice my ball much farther down the track. I played 8.5 and 9 degree drivers for years. Went with the 10.5 in the G20 for better accuracy, and it doesn’t disappoint. Straighter and at least 20 yards longer.
Maybe just the performance score should be posted because 89.7 is too low for this club. I waited a long time for the price to drop and when it did i didn’t hesitate to buy it. I LOVE THIS DRIVER!!!!!
It’s not pretty and it’s not ugly and if you care about that stuff go wash your car for the third time this week. My 5th year playing this fine sport and 8 drivers have been in my bag over that time. With the G20 now in my bag, is my stupid spending habbit over? My longest driver ever, only comparable to the Cleveland Classic, but 10 times more accurate. When a driver is capable of lowering your handicap, you know you have something special. I know I do(12 to 8) and it’s staying for a long time. Great review guys.
Bought this at Dick’s yesterday after comparing to 9 other drivers. I spent 2-1/2 hours in the practice booth with them, swapping back and forth. I’m not a long hitter, but this thing was reading the longest distance of all the drivers I tried (it tied with the i20), but it felt more forgiving.
This, along with the price, put it in my bag. I took it to the driving range today, and in a full bucket, I mis-hit maybe 3 balls. Which is killin’ it for me. I very much enjoyed my lunchtime outing to the range. I’m a solid 18 hc, so my opinion is probably pretty worthless to you 7-8’ers. Anyways, it certaininy does not suck.
Picked up a 10.5 big bad pink Bubba version this Spring – the shocking color never ceases to get all sorts of crude comments. That is, until I hit it in front of the commenters. Switched from a Cobra ZL, a marvelous driver, after discovering that not only is this pink beast 35 yards longer, it’s just as easy to hit. High piercing drives that carry long enough to warrant airline stickers on the ball, and i finally actually see the results of paying so much for premium golf balls (Z-Stars and Pro V1’s, Hex Black Tours) – you can feel the compression and the jump off the driver face is amazing. Don’t kid yourself, the G20 is loooong and very straight.
I’ve hit the Ping G20 and have to admit that it’s an awesome club. As a matter of fact, I have one on the way to me as I write this.
The sound of the club didn’t bother me, as a matter of fact it sounded like power, thrust and precision. As far as looks, very important. If you don’t like what you’re swinging, then you won’t swing it well. I tried the R11 and was really distracted by the white headwhat the heck?
Don’t get me wrong about Taylormade, I have the R9 irons in my bag and really like them. Buy the Ping G20!! I must vent, i have been a ping customer for at least 10 years. When i ordered my custom g20 driver because i am a lefty i wanded a pink driver like bubba at the time i was told no way can not do no exceptions.
Well bubba won the masters and guest what like magic ping all of a sutton they were making pink drivers avail. I called my club pro, the ping rep, and ping cust service and to no avail.
They told me that i had to keep the present driver that i had, now i had to wait a longer period for my driver because i am a lefty and taller than the avg golfer but because i feel like the pop singer I CANT GET NO SATIFICATION i will never but another ping product and everywhere I go i tell golfer rather beginner or vet they dont get it done for loyal customers so to —– with ping there are other products on the market. I have had the Ping G5, G15 and just ordered the G20. I have hit my brothers G20, although he uses a reg shaft and I a stiff, I still hit his club a mile and didn’t drift off to the right waiting for the club face to square up like I thought I would be doing. You know, the G15 I have is a very great performing club and have been totally satisfied with the forgiveness and length.
I ordered the G20 in a 9.5 with a stiff flex tour shaft, as I tend to hit a higher ball flight (maybe being 6’8″ attributes to that). Hopefully the tour shaft will lower the flight of the ball. I play to a 11.5 hcp, so I am a middle of the roader, punching it 280-290 on average, 57 years old, who totally loves the Ping drivers I have had. I’ve been looking to buy a new driver since my first driver had been a used Callaway Big Bertha. I’ve tried many drivers from Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade, Nike.
After reading this site, I finally tried Ping G20. I have been losing so many strokes to penalty and out of bounds from slices from the tee box. With the Ping G20 which I had recently bought, I was able to hit a more straighter path launch with a little more distance added. I am more relaxed and confident when it’s my turn on the tee box. I admit to having a Ping bias as I think they have always had a game improvement slant for us hackers (15 H). I have been playing a G15 driver since they came out and pretty happy with the game improvement it gave me. Last weekend I had a golf outing with my sales team and one of them in my foursome rented G 20’s.
Ping G15 Clubs
I couldn’t resist the urge to reach into his bag to try out the driver. I used it for 10 holes. Like the testers, I didn’t immediately notice the difference until I started measuring the distances. Even my toe misses were going going 210-220 yards. After tying a career best 39 on the back nine I bought one that day. Have played two games since and can’t believe the extra distance and accuracy I am still getting. Sure is fun hitting short irons into the green instead of hybrids.
I purchased a G20 as soon as it hit the stores last August. I got the 10.5 deg w/ Stiff Tour shaft. October 1st I dented the face. Got my second in November direct from Ping with the same loft only X-Stiff Tour shaft this time. Last weekend I dented the second one. Same location on the face.
Just a little off center toward the toe. Ping has been great to work with on this issue but no one understands it. I should have the 3rd club by the end of the month. We will see how it holds up if I decide to keep it.
I really like the club and it is longer than my G10 but I may have to look for another option just because it is annoying having to worry about it. Has anyone else heard of this? So I am one of the “Ping loyalists” the writer is talking about, at least where drivers are concerned. My question though would be is this driver really better than the G15, which is the best thing I’ve ever hit and that includes most of the other brand’s 2012 stuff. I actually hit the G20 too real quick once as our Ping rep was cleaning up his stall at my club. I found the feel of it to be really hard and so different than the G15. I also did not “perceive” any more distance than my G15.
But I’m open minded. So the question is this guy consistently longer than the G15 without sacrificing forgiveness?
I never considered the G15 to be straight, so I’m not expecting much there. And I know it doesn’t feel as good, but I might be willing to ignore that if it gets me out there more consistently. I have a G10 driver and it’s quite long. I’ve tried the G15 because someone praised it so highly. I suspect this new driver has the hype that the others do. I’ve also tried all the other over-hyped “name” brand drivers on the market and there’s no question in my mind that the finest products out there at a fair price are the Cleveland products.
My Cleveland driver is longer by at least 10 yards over the “name” brands. The reason I wrote in this section about this is because the golfing public gets hoodwinked by clever advertising and over-hyped manufacturers who are hawking their goods for sales dollars. Buyer beware.
Try them all, you’ll be surprised by the results. I really dont understand what the testers were thinking, i work in a golf store and have seen just about every driver on shelf in the last 2 years. When the staff are allowed to test drivers, the G20 came out as one of the favorites as far as just sound and feel. Thats not the say that were bias to PING, which were not, but it is a great brand, just as good if not better than brands such as Callaway, Titliest or even Taylormade. The only reason that people go for the other brands and not PING is because there marketing is not as large as the other major brands, because there privately owned and dont feel as much pressure to advertise there products as much as Titliest, and especially Callaway and Taylormade.
To be honest PING needs far more recognition. My my view this is a clear improvement over the G15 and much better than the G10. I can’t speak for the K15 as I have never hit it, but overall it a great stick. The sound is horrible. A huge step backwards, so much so its starts to get really annoying. True, it is not Sumo or Monster loud but anyone who is used to a Ping driver will be pretty shocked at that they hear. But who cares if it performs right?
Well it performs but for the 300+ sticker price it has a big problem- and that problems name is the Rapture V2. The Rapture V2 is just as long, if not longer, just as forgiving, sounds 100 times better and you can picked up a used one, or even a unused one for less than a buck and a half. It’s no contest.
The G20 almost matches a driver Ping released over years ago. Maybe the G25 will finally make the step forward. It just goes to show what a legendary driver the V2 was. I like Ping, I like the G20 (except the sound) but anyone considering it should demo it beside a Rapture V2.
I currently play the TiSi Tec 7deg stiff a mid-size 323cc head that I avg. 290 yds a drive (+/-20) but have a tendency to launch them sky high. I demo’d the K15 and G15 last year on a range and LOVED the G15 but the 9 deg stiff launched even higher no measurable improvement over what I have so it wasn’t for me. Now I’m hearing that the new G20 with the tour shaft and 8.5 degrees may be the ticket for a lower trajectory, a few more yards, a little more 460cc forgiveness for the occasional miss-hits and hopefully a drop in my 8 HC. I’ll be trying it out and a Ping Demo Day later this month at a nearby range we’ll see. I played the 8.5 with the stock Tour stiff shaft today and this thing out-distanced my 9064LS DFS by 15 yards, had lower spin (vs RIP gamma), and didn’t drop out of the sky upon descent EVERY time!
4 drives (i average around 285-290 normally) 302, 305, 312, 332. Measured using GPS! This driver is amazing and I’ve hit them ALL this year. You are doing yourself a disservice if you’re in the market for a new stick and don’t go try the demos of the G20. Simply an amazing driver. I ordered one as soon as I stepped off the course. Pings have always been long since the TiSi and their custom hosel.
I own a G20 4 wood, and the Ping G20 Driver seems like a larger version. The FW goes straight and I would suspect the G20 driver to be a straight shooter. No, the look is not my favorite, and if I hadn’t purchased two used Superfast 2.0 drivers only a month before intro, I may have picked up the G20.
But I owned a Rapture V2 for 3 years, and we didn’t exactly agree with each other. The SF 2.0, on the other hand, I like its more triangular head versus the rather pedestrian looking G20 Driver. I think the triangle is a better design for stability. Still, the G20 would be at the top of my list to demo if I was buying. And your testers?
Morons, all of them. Present company excepted of course. Every time I read that people have a negative view of Ping clubs, I find it hard to believe.
Everyone I know save one plays a Ping driver. Whenever I walk on with a group of strangers, 75% of them are gaming Pings. I just don’t believe people are so stupid to discount a club for the way it looks or the name brand on it, but hey more for me. I hit the G20 and liked it. I game a K15 which is an absolute monster. I am regularly just as long as the G20, G15, and G10 in my regular group.
It fits my swing fault/tendencies and I am finding way more fairways than ever. Personally, I could care less if it says Ping on the bottom or if it’s highlighter yellow and made by Powerbilt. With results like these Previously I have gamed Adams, Wilson, Taylormade, and Nike drivers. Ping is no different and certainly not inferior. So keep gaming what you think is longer and better. I’ll just keep bombing fairways! I understand the competion is hard but can we stop already with all the new everything in golf.
We had some fun this summer and we did a focus group on Drivers. Here is the catch we put a G5 ping,G10,G15 and a K15 and we covered all the markings. Our six golfers were all single digit hanicap. The answer we got that 4 players picked the G5 and the other 2 picked the G10.So by making all new clubs every year and we golfers changing every year it makes no sense.I bet if others would try Talormade products and or Callaway we would get the same results.Just tell me how different is the Ping5 from the Ping10? Spilly – Based on what I’ve observed testing clubs over the last several years; I’d say that it’s the low handicap players that show the least variance between clubs. Most are incredibly consistent, and quite frankly, I’d doubt that there’s much difference between now and 3 years ago where center of the face contact is concerned. Once you move up to middle and higher handicap players, the larger sweet spots and more forgiving designs do actually make a difference. Don’t get me wrong, we’re talking about small evolutionary (not revolutionary steps here), but I’d venture to say that most golfers would see measurable improvement moving from a G5 to a G20. A G15admittedly not nearly as much so. I agree with you 100%.
I am in my 60’s and a swing speed in the 80’s. I played with a young man who had a Ping G15 and killed the ball, so, like most of us who are always in search of the perfect driver I purchased a G15, soft regular flex, and have been amazed at the results. I hit more fairways, longer drives and the most surprising are my miss hits, I think I just blew it, however, when I get to my ball I realize I did not lose that much in distance. The best driver I have owned (so far). I am curious when you say: “I’ve only thought enough of 2 drivers this year to put them in my bag and take them out to the golf course. The Ping G20 is one of them.” What was the other one? RSW New York.
I agree that Pings are often overlooked especially by driver snobs/nazis that believe PING does not make a quality driver, or that they’ve NEVER made a quality driver. That’s hogwash. Somehow Ouisthuizen found his Rapture to be acceptable enough to win the British Open. Bubba certainly has faith is his potatoe masher. I switched from the G15 to the Titleist D2 because I wanted a dead neutral face and the G15 set up slightly shut which was helping me on balls where I was late through the hitting zone but not helping when I got slightly ahead of it. I wanted to remove the left side of the golf course and I find PING does not help you do that.
That being saidthe Rapture and the G10 (I also had the G10) were pretty damn neutral and good enough for former world number 1 Lee Westwood. I really have to agree with you on this one. In my more subjective field tests, and mind you, I do not bag a Ping Driver (Adams F11), nor do I bag Ping Irons, (Wilson Staff Ci9’s), I have hit plenty of both.
This is by far Ping’s best driver for “The Average Joe All The Way To Pro” Category since the days of the TiSi Tech Craze. I’m not sure what your testers were feeling, but I found this new Titanium Alloy they are using in the face to have a “POP” similar to the first wave 0f Beta Ti faces that came out on the old Orlimar 420 series, while possessing that split second of “Cling” at impact that made Mizuno Drivers so tempting to put in the bag, despite their lack of “POP”. Maybe we’re both crazy, and I need to go slam my head against the car door a few hundred times.Pop + Cling + Distance = AMAZING in my book—so I just don’t get it either.
Interested in upgrading clubs in the near future. I have hit both and really like both. I like the price tag on the G10's a little bit better, however, I am wondering if I should just pay the extra and get the G15's. I know they say the G15's are some of the most forgiving clubs on the market, but in comparison to the G10's.
Are they that much more forgiving? I have been playing about 2 years or so. I am consistently in the high 80's to low 90's. I dont want to work the ball just yet. My goal is to become a consistent ball striker and know that I can hit shots at any given time. So which should I go for??
Thanks for the input guys. Greatly appreciated. Tested the G10 and i10 irons a couple of years ago when I swapped out clubs. G10 has a high-launch head, plus a high-launch stock shaft. It just got the ball up in the air too much for me. Same problem with the Callaway Big Berthas.
I ended up getting the Callaway X20s, a UGI club with a mid-launch shaft. If you have decent clubhead speed, you might want to avoid the G10s. The G15s seem to be popular with a wide range of handicaps.
A pro at a demo day said he recommends G15s to 20+ HDCP players, plus he plays them himself. He said G15s work best - as do all irons - if you have the right shaft for your game. Hint: get fitted. If you have any interest at all in the g15's, i would get them. Only because they are pings top of the line club, and if you get the g10's you will always be wondering what the g15's would have done differently for your game, and how much more improvement they would have given. Could be a mental thing that would never allow you to reach your full potential with the g 10's simply because you would be wishing you got the g15's.
Even if i had to wait a couple of extra months to save up, i would go for the g 15's. Originally Posted by Sliceapotomus Went today and got fitted. Surprisingly they came up with exactly what the Ping Web Fit came up with. Green dot, standard length.
Stiff flex, steel shafts. Still making the great debate. But leaning towards the G10s. More input is welcome!
I game the G 15 irons and love them but I say go for the G10's if saving a bit of money is important to you as these irons are very similar in thier design. You say you got fitted for stiff flex steels shafts? Was that the AWT shaft?
Did you know that they offer the Z-Z65 shaft as a stock option (wait I am not sure about that for the G10?). Are you familair with the difference between the AWT and Z-Z65 shaft? Well either way you will become even more a part of the PING family with which ever G iron you go with.welcome! It was actually for the AWT shaft. I dont think the Z-Z65 came stock on the G10's. I actually just ordered the G10's with the steel, stiff flex AWT shafts. Thanks for all of the words.
Got a stupid good deal on them, so I went ahead and made it happen. Cannot wait for them to come in! Originally Posted by Sliceapotomus It was actually for the AWT shaft. Got a stupid good deal on them, so I went ahead and made it happen. Cannot wait for them to come in! The AWT shafts are very good shafts (made by True Temper for PING.I think?) and are a progressive kick point shaft to help you get the ball in the air with your longer irons.plus there is no 'up-charge'. Welcome to the family!!! Looked long and hard at the Mizuno JPX-800's; in the end, had played Pings for more than 20 years and just couldn't get away from that look. I am thinking about replacing my TEE hybrid (16 deg) with a G 15 hybrid 17 deg and possibly going to a 20 deg one as well.let me know how you like the G 15 hybrids as I have read conflicting things about them.but all I know is if they play anything like my G 15 irons then they have got to be sweet! I don't see why there's a big debate. The G15's are built on the same platform as the G10, which was an 'upgrade' to the G5, and so on. A couple of milimeters difference in Center of Gravity (CG) location won't make a big difference. The color scheme doesn't make a difference. THe G10's were 'top of the line' when they came out.
Why wouldn't they be now? Just because they're a little older?
If you hit them both and liked them both, get the G10's and use that extra $$$ on something else, like Ping shirts, a few lessons (everyone should at least take a few), or a few extra rounds this year. Thanks Justin!! Funny you say that. I just purchased a couple new Ping G10 hats and a Ping shirt.
And a few rounds are always thrown in there. Been hitting it pretty good lately. Focusing on a few things, - Weight on the balls of the feet at 1 - Grip in the fingers of the left hand (was getting a little lazy with that) - Little right arm pronation on the takeaway (right palm pointing towards the ground) - Right arm staying above the left during the backswing (feel) - Pelvis shifts forward and behind in transition, kind of like I'm doing the first bit of a back squat. These feels have helped shorten the backswing a little and add a little more distance. Still hate my saggy knee, hopefully I can keep making improvements on that in '18. That's not how discussions work.
You can choose to not want to convince me, but since I have no way of knowing whether your statement is accurate or not you do have to prove it, yeah. If you want to. I suspect you won't, because you have nothing to gain. By pointing out several of the things that happen, or things that the articles I cited (and others) don't consider or note. The Hosnian system was the home of the Republic and the New Republic Starfleet, so, a military installation.
How many millions of people did Holdo kill with her jump through Snoke's ship? I've seen theories that say nobody else does that because it's a war crime.
Otherwise, why wouldn't ever battle just be a bunch of ships jumping through other ships. Plant tycoon free download. You could build a fleet of ships who had shields and were run by a droid to jump through other bigger ships.
How about each Death Star? Millions of innocent worker lives lost. I'm not claiming that the Dark Side or Empire is always good. But the Rebels aren't always good either, and have quite a bit of blood on their hands, too.
My statement is accurate, so I don't need to convince you. If you won't watch the cartoons or look into the recent supporting material, how could I convince you anyway? Maybe if I have time in future I will find some clips and material like the one example I quickly found to counter argue each point in one of these links but I don't really see the value in doing so for the time it will require to put together at this moment. Maybe in a week or two.
If it is more fun for some to see the Star Wars universe that way, that is fine by me, you just won't be right. I do agree with you on TLJ but FA should have changed that for you with the Hosnian System.
All you need to compare is by going to the link below. All the compares are done on the Ping Man. G15 is +6 yrds longer on center hits and an average of +10 yards longer on off center hits. G10 was a great driver, but G15 is looking to be much better.
Some amazing stat's on mishits. G15 is really forgiving from reports.
I just got mine today and will compare to my Rapture V2 and a G10 I had a year ago. The Rapture V2 is amazing and I've heard/read the G15 is comparable distance wise and maybe even more forgiving. I hit the G15 and the V2 yesterday at a outdoor range superstore. The G15 had the Serrano shaft and the V2 had the Diamana. The V2 had R and the G15s I tried had S and R. I could've played with R or S and it would not have made much difference to me based on my eyesight.
I guess TrackMan would split the 'hairs' on the G15 with regards to what shaft flex is best for me. The V2 and the G15 compared favorably the same. Again, TrackMan would have to split the 'hairs' to see if the additional $100 is money well worth spent.
I did like the feeling at impact on the V2 and I'm not sure if that's the clubhead or the shaft. BTW, I really liked the Diamana shaft. It was the first time I ever hit a golf club with that shaft. As of now, the G15 isn't offered with the Diamana. And, it maybe that the G15 doesn't work well with the Diamana since these clubs seemed to be designed with certain shafts in mind.
At my age, I'm going to rely on technology to tell me what shaft and clubhead to use for complete effeciency. My swing speed will not increase with age, so effeciency is where I can benefit going forward. G15 or the V2; I'd be happy with either. For the record, I'm going from the G2 to G15 or V2. G15 and V2 seemed more forgiving on mishits from what I can tell. I had been trying to decide between the V2 and the G15 both with Reg Ping shafts.
I hit them a number of times trying to make up my mind. I would always get better distance with the V2 about 5 -7 yards better. But the G15 felt very good not that the V2 did not.
So it was close I went with the cheaper the G15 10.5. After playing with it for one round I have to say it is a very nice driver. Long and very easy to hit. I think I made the right choice. However I also have a Dymo 2 str8 9.5.
that is about as good as the Ping. When I go play I take both drivers and try to makeup my mind which to use. They are very close in easy of use and performace. At this point I can not decide which I like better. They are equal.
This is the result of club Ho'ing. This is what I have. G15 9 with a Fubuki 63 stiff G10 9 with a Whiteboard 63 stiff. I only have one round with the G15 and I was swinging not so great but did manage to hit a couple nice drives. Between these 2.
For my 95 Mph swing. The G15 is longer. It is a improvement over the G10. A huge difference? Depends how you define huge.
I will say either one of these drivers I could play for the next couple years and be happy. It just seems that on mishits I ended up farther down the fairway than I thought, with the G15 that is. It seems to be sneaky long.
But that could have more to do with the shafts. Launch is about the same, I think spin is a lower with the G15. I was getting some decent roll. Equipement so good now that IMO, the only thing I can choose is feel. I'll be counting on an outdoor range with TracMan to tell me what driver is best for me: My old G2 with after-market Fuji or the G15 or the V2. IMO, if you got a G10 I just don't see how there can be that much difference to the G15. It's all about personal preference.
IMO, the only reason to change drivers anymore is due to boredom. I doubt my scores will change by me going from my trusty G2 to a G15. Instead, find me a putter that makes everything 6 feet or less and my scores shall change. Edited by oceansunfish, 22 September 2009 - 03:18 AM. I gamed the G10 blueboard for 2 years and thought it was the best driver on the planet. Purchased a G15 with the TFC 129 shaft 3 weeks ago and have played a dozen rounds with it. My findings are that the G15 is infact a better driver 5 to 10 yards longer and much more forgiving.
This thing just wants to go straight. The G15 will launch a touch higher than the G10 make sure you get fitted. Can you expand on your comparison? I was fitted by the Ping van for a G10 10.5 Blueboard regular shaft.but didn't pull the trigger. Now I just bought the G15 10.5 TFC regular and don't seem to be in love. Was thinking of looking at the Serrano shaft which I've heard compared to the Blueboard. Did you try the Serrano?

I did try the Serrano stiff flex in the 10.5.
but i got better results with the TFC stiff in the 9. head.
The Serrano launched alittle lower than the TFC with less spin. As far as feel i could not tell the difference between the two shafts. Intel canada ices 003 class b motherboard audio drivers. My G10 blueboard is 10.5. stiff the new G15 TFC 129 stiff 9. hope this helps. You may want to test the 9. So I'm a month in to my G15 experiment.
Which has now become experments. I have three now - all Serrano shafts, 10.5.
Reg, 9.Reg, and 9.Stiff. You can see the WITB below for status, but at this writing, the V2 remains in the sack. Actually, what's threatening it more is another V2-BB that was tip-trimmed 3/8'. And yes, I'd say that the Serrano feels an awful lot like the Blueboard - in this head at least.
Nice mid-launch, low-spin, smooth-feeling shaft. But since I like the BB in the V2, it's still my favorite. But that said, I'm not dumping these G15s just yet. I have gotten good to excellent results. I still feel my V2-BB is longer, but the G15 (10.5.R) has performed really well. Better than my G10 (to stick with the original thread). In fact, I guess the point of this post is to say that I don't feel the G10 (with a Blueboard) is as good as the G15 Serrano.
And truth be told, I have one sub-80 round in my whole life. And the G15 was on the tee-box 14 times on that round, and in the fairway 10. Hard to argue with that. But I still just like the V2 better.
So I'm going to keep testing these out. I'll also say that I have found not much difference in any aspect between my 9. and 10.5. Regulars. Maybe if I had them digitally measured, I'd find they're close.
But I'm pretty sure at least one of these will be sold by the end of the month. I'll also say that the Stiff flex doesn't feel a whole lot different than the Reg flex either. My SS is borderline anyway. And I'm looking at the 9.
Stiff for days when it's been dry and my home course runs like a rabbit; trying for those low, long-rolling strokes. Sorry Im not buying all the hype. Heres my problem here, you can fidge the numbers many different ways. First of all it only lists carry distance. Second of all it doesnt list spin, LA, AOD, nothing. Basically it is telling me the G15 spins like a top with the extra carry. They also dont tell you if both were extact 9 degree heads.
One could be a 10 and the other a 9. With roll out maybe the G10 is 5 yards longer?
Anyone else skeptical? The tests are carried out on a robot using trackman. OK but heres the other problem.
Different shafts were used in different heads. Maybe the shaft in the G10 isn't playing the same as the one in the G15, giving the G15 better BS and lower spin. In fact Im sure they are not.
Could the G15 be a little hotter than the G10 tested as well? Manufacturing errors?
If the G10 is.830 cor and the G15.830 cor than they should be identical in the sweetspot hits. They are not but should be. Sorry Im not buying all the hype. Heres my problem here, you can fidge the numbers many different ways.

Manufacturing errors? If the G10 is.830 cor and the G15.830 cor than they should be identical in the sweetspot hits. They are not but should be. If that is your argument, then you will NEVER be able to compare them huh? I mean you could test both with the exact same shaft and loft and still argue the difference is still because one head was manufactured 'hotter' within tolerances. It will never be a fair comparison according to your logic! Next thing you will say is the robot is swinging 0.1% faster with the G15 to give the inflated numbers.
IMO, this is a VERY apples-to-apples comparison. Old vs new both, both with same flex stock shaft on a robot with trackman. Proof is in the pudding. Sorry Im not buying all the hype. Heres my problem here, you can fidge the numbers many different ways. First of all it only lists carry distance.

Proof is in the pudding. I dont buy it because you're telling me.830 isnt.830.
If the G10 was built up to the limit then it should have the exact same ballspeed as the G15 on sweetspot hits. Im more inclined to see its longer on mishits even if you take out the hottness factor (manufacturing errors) in these two heads.
About a couple yards on mishits.
